What buzzer gives the closest cut?
All of the popular hi-end clippers are very similar. I’d recommend Andis’ clippers which will reportedly give you just about the closest cut you can get

Here’s my personal experience of cutting my own hair.
It saves time & money and there’s no small talk with the stylist!
But it pays to get the right trimmer!
I’ve been cutting my own now for over 15 years, however
Having now used both the rechargeable types and the
Battery types, for me the battery types wins hands-down.
Why? Because rechargeable always seem to run out
Just when you get to the final stages, leaving the user
Covered in hair and not knowing what to do!
( This is based on a ONE HOUR hair cut )
My hair is quite thick/bushy, so takes almost an hour.
Most rechargeables WHEN NEW do indeed last for an hour,
However, after a few months, they usually drop to 30 minutes
Or less, especially as most are fitted with cheap Chinese internal
Batteries these days, that don’t hold full charge after a few months!
Yep even the newer Lithium types too! These also perform poorly after a while!
Also the review doesn’t reveal cutting lengths for all models!

Anyhow, this is my take on it.
1/Mains power is the way to go ideally.
The higher power and the fact it won’t cut out half way through your session
Makes it a clear winner ( that’s why the pros don’t use rechargeables! )
However, the cable can get in the way
especially If you’re cutting your hair yourself.
Plus not safe around water, if using in a bathroom etc.
2/ Battery is next best, as regular batteries are cheap these days,
And if your trimmer runs out, while in the middle of a haircut,
Just pop some more in it, easy! Plus battery trimmers are
Usually smaller, so easier to handle. Better for travelling too!
( Both electric and rechargeable are usually more bulky! )
3/ Rechargeable.
Nothing good to say about them, due to the internal
Batteries tanking out after a few months!
I guess Rechargeable models are fine for guys that
Can complete their haircuts in 30 minutes or less,
As that is all your rechargeable will offer after a few months!
My advice is to find the best REGULAR BATTERY model you can find
That offers the most lengths! ( 1mm through 25mm will suit most )

I totally agree with you! The best trimmers I find are the corded wahl detailers. Ive been trying to find a trimmer to replace my 3rd silver bullet rechargable metro. I only use it for clipper over comb holding it like a pen however the battery life absolutely sucks. Any recommendations? If they brought out a corded version, would have bought it in a heartbeat

I have a Wahl 9916 bought on the recommendation of friends, and believe me I regret buying it from the first cut. Hence I am scared to go for another Wahl even though it’s number 1 here.

Licensed Barber here. I use Andis Masters, and Andis T- Outlines for a reason. They’re powerful because they’re plugged in.
That being said, there are only 3 cordless clippers with purchasing. Only 1 listed here. I don’t mean this in a “professional use” manner, and at the same time, I do. Use the three on yourself… Then when you need to get it fixed…

What a fail at being anonymous…
I am looking for a medium priced hair and beard trimmer for my 97 yr old father who can do some of the shaving and trimming by him self. He is not able to clean it by himself though. It needs to be relatively easy to clean by my 90 yr old mother. Would like it to be corded and cordless Wand have a good warranty.
